Genealogical Research Services



The Society operates a research library, basically limited to Huntingdon County sources.
(Its hours are listed in the table below.)

Included are:
  • Published regional, county, and community histories
  • 45,000 index cards of deaths and marriages from local newspapers
  • Family files of research done by our staff or other researchers in the past
  • Many published and typescript genealogies and biographical encyclopedias
  • Extensive index to Civil War sources
  • Many Bible, church and cemetery records
  • Complete published Pennsylvania Archives
  • Tax assessment records from 1788-1876
  • "Your Family Tree," with Huntingdon County Index
  • Huntingdon County Census microfilm: 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920
  • 1890 Census of Civil War veterans and Widows
  • Census indexes for 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870
  • Naturalizations 1798-1832, estate inventories 1788-1918, some early divorces
  • City directories (1876 & 1911 - county-wide; others - Huntingdon Borough only)
  • Obituaries (late 19th and 20th centuries)

March 12 - Nov 21 Wed. and Fri. 9 AM - 4 PM,

Thurs 9AM - 8PM

You may visit our library to conduct your own research, with the help of our volunteers (see option 1 below), or you may access our sources by mail with the help of our researchers (see options 2 and 3 below).


Options for Using Our Library Resources

WB00882_.GIF (263 bytes) Option 1: You may visit our library at 106 4th St., directly behind the Huntingdon County Library. There is a $5.00 per day charge to non-members for use of our library. It is wise to confirm our library schedule before traveling to Huntingdon. Phone (814) 643-5449 during the library hours listed above.

WB00882_.GIF (263 bytes) Option 2: Experienced researchers will conduct a search of all relevant sources in our library, the county courthouse, and the Juniata College newspaper archives @ $25.00/hour for members and $30.00/hour for non members (Includes up to 10 copies at no charge; additional copies at .25 ea. Courthouse copies charged at their rates.)
WB00882_.GIF (263 bytes) Option 3: If it is impossible for you to visit during regular hours, a researcher can be engaged to open the library and assist you with your research at a charge of $10.00/hr. You must make an appointment in advance.
