The Friends of the East Broad Top (FEBT) is an organization devoted to the preservation of the East Broad Top Railroad (EBT) and its history in this area. The EBT was founded in 1856 to haul coal and other materials from the coal fields of the Broad Top to Mount Union. Founded in 1983 the FEBT has been protecting the EBT for more than 20 years. Continuing this tradition today, the Friends are involved in a variety of projects from the restoration of an EBT rail car to the creation of a museum complex in Robertsdale. The museum complex consists of two historic buildings, the Depot and the Old Post Office. The FEBT plans to do more than simply preserve these historic buildings, but also to help raise awareness of the importance which the EBT had in this county. The museum, which focuses largely on the people and events surrounding the EBT, will house a variety of materials which can help to understand the role which the EBT played.
The museum is open from June thru mid-October 10am – 5pm Saturday and 1pm – 5pm Sunday. Back issues of the Timber transfer are available both online and at the museum
